The Surgical Clinical Reviewer operates in a self directed manner to collect and submit reliable data to the American College of Surgeon's (ACS) National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP). Responsibilities include high quality clinical screening, data compilation, documentation and entry into the ACS NSQIP database of all eligible surgeries for the hospital. The Clinical Reviewer also works closely with the members of the Department of Surgery and Quality & Patient Safety to identify opportunities for clinical quality and process improvement and other special projects as identified.
Bachelor’s degree required. RN, or BSN desirable. Minimum one year experience in hospital surgery department, surgery clinic, clinical research or medical records. Clinical chart review and abstraction experience required.
Successfully complete the ACS NSQIP SCR Training/Certification Program. Successfully complete all pre-training, on-site training, and post-training modules and pass the training post test. Ability to build relationships and gain alignment for clinical support and be able to articulate questions to receive an appropriate level of support from superiors and peers in a professional and courteous manner. Ability to collaborate effectively with an interdisciplinary health care team as demonstrated by excellent communication and teamwork skills. Statistical knowledge and analysis preferred. Quality improvement or patient safety knowledge and experience preferred. Strong data analysis skills, requiring interpretation of clinical results to develop program improvement projects.
Computer and Internet experience required. Microsoft Word, Excel are required, Microsoft Access and Power Point preferred. Database data entry and/or management experience preferred.
